FESTIBÉRICO 2010 offers an up-to-date review of Spanish and Portuguese cinema with many special activities like guests and presentations. According to tradition, on Thursday April 15 the Spanish and Portuguese ambassadors open the festival. During this opening night we screen ARENA, the winner of the Golden Palm for short films in Cannes 2009, followed by LOS GIRASOLES CIEGOS about the Spanish civil war.
Friday the 16th is a day dedicated to fado with the film AMÁLIA and the animated GUISADO DE GALINHA.
On Sunday April 18 there will be two screenings of documentaries. In the afternoon the best Portuguese documentary of 2009 (according todoclisboa) can be seen: PARE, ESCUTE, OLHE, a view on an abandoned railroad line in the north of Portugal. At night the great Spanish filmmaker Luis Buñuel is the central figure in EL ÚLTIMO GUIÓN, BUÑUEL EN LA MEMORIA, in which his eldest son Juan Luis Buñuel and scriptwriter Jean Claude Carrière visit places of his life. Director Gaizka Urresti is present at the screening.
On Tuesday April 20 before the screening of one of the most original Spanish movies of recent years EL CANT DELS OCELLS, there is a presentation by Instituto Cervantes about Spanish cinema and its current situation in the Netherlands. You may listen to this presentation free of charge but you have to buy a ticket for the film though.
On Thursday April 22 the Spanish director Javier Fesser and producer Luis Manso present CAMINO, 2009 winner of the Goyas for best film, best director and best actress.
On Friday 23 we screen YO, TAMBIÉN, a moving story that recently won the Public Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
On Saturday April 24 the Portuguese director Marco Martins is a guest at the screening of ALICE, the winner of best film in the Directors Fortnight in Cannes in 2005.
On Sunday-afternoon April 25 there is a screening of animation films from Spain and Portugal. This seventh edition of Festibérico is organized in cooperation with the Spanish and Portuguese embassies, Instituto Cervantes, Instituto Camões, Portuguese film institute ICA, Portuguese Agency for short films and local Spanish and Portuguese organizations.
